1/1 Renewals: Record capital expands opportunity to address more sources of volatility

We are thrilled to welcome Aon’s Chief Broking Officer for Reinsurance, Anshuman Srivastava, as host of this year’s annual IIL reinsurance renewals lecture to help us unpack the causes and consequences of a fiercely competitive 1/1 renewals season defined by record-breaking capital.
Record-breaking capital and a benign hurricane season set the stage for fierce competition at January 1, exacerbated by growing appetite from third-party capital providers for insurance risk. Capitalising on a buyers’ market, insurers were able to secure significant decreases in pricing and improved terms overall – creating new opportunities to reinvest savings to address customers’ unmet needs and drive profitable growth with new solutions.
Learning objectives:
-
Explore the reinsurance market context leading up to 1/1/2026
-
Understand how cedents, brokers and reinsurers responded to market conditions, in particular, abundant capital
-
Consider the challenges and opportunities ahead for the reinsurance market in 2026 and beyond
