The Young Members’ Committee (YMC) of the Insurance Institute of London (IIL) represents the future of the London insurance and financial services market – encompassing insurers, reinsurers, brokers, Lloyd’s, the LMA and the legal and financial services professions.

At the YMC, our purpose is to bring people together by organising a diverse range of educational, practical and social events aimed at advancing your professional and personal development and help expand your network by giving you the opportunities to make new connections. Whether you’re developing your technical knowledge, sharpening your soft skills, or looking to feel inspired, we’ll have something for you.

From exploring market trends and learning how to invest, to salary negotiation skills workshops and fireside chats with some of the industry’s finest, our events are designed to add value and offer you unique insights.

The YMC’s annual flagship event, the Winter Ball continues to be a roaring success – welcoming over 1,000 young professionals in 2025!

A message from our Chair:

Hello, I’m Valtter Lehtonen – Chair of the IIL YMC. I currently work for Marsh in the Corporate sales team, targeting new business in the retail, manufacturing and technology sectors.

I first got involved with the YMC when I moved to London in 2021, as I thought it would be a great way to build my network across the market and to learn more about the industry. I quickly saw the value of these events and it inspired me to get more involved.

Since joining, I’ve had the pleasure of working with other passionate professionals from different walks of life in the insurance industry – from Underwriting and Broking, to Claims, Insurtech and Legal. Each of us bring something unique to the table, and together we aim to create events that will support young professionals in their development and careers.

As Chair, I’m excited to continue growing the YMC’s reach across the London insurance industry. We’re committed to delivering a mix of events that cover everything from technical knowledge, leadership skills, ESG, Diversity & Inclusion, and create networking opportunities every chance that we get!
