Business must bite the bullet: Geopolitics, hybrid warfare and commercial risk

In this IIL aviation webinar, Guy Spindler talks about the present conflict in Europe, both in Ukraine and more broadly, and the China challenge. He explores how companies must adapt to a world where geopolitics, once an interesting backdrop to business decisions, has become a major source of operational and financial opportunities and threats.
In this presentation, the speaker explains the reasons for the conflict in Europe, the complexity of America and Europe’s relationships with China, and why conflict between these various powers will continue for the foreseeable future. Then, he examines how, given the high stakes on all sides, the principal geopolitical players (though not Europe) have abandoned Rules-based competition and adopted full-spectrum conflict instead. While this is increasingly understood as a geopolitical phenomenon, the implications for the private sector are rarely addressed, and many boards still rely on their governments to cover these risks.
This presentation will explain why this is not a safe approach, and why tighter engagement with geopolitics and operational risks is necessary if companies are to navigate the era successfully and keep mitigation costs under control.
