Babak Tavassolie, Head Analyst - Political and Credit Risk, SCOR
Marine & Energy
CPD Technical Marine

In this IIL marine and energy webinar, Babak Tavassolie discusses major geopolitical trends in 2026 and how they might affect risk calculations for (re)insurers. He specifically focuses on the competition between the US and China, as well as major conflicts around the world and their impacts.

Multipolarity means many things to different people – risks for some are opportunities for others. In this session, the speaker explains why geopolitics can’t be viewed in isolation; other megatrends, such as demographics and climate change, must also be considered.

Finally, Babak explains that geopolitical shifts provide opportunities for reinsurance/insurance – if new risks are well understood.

Learning objectives:

  • An understanding of the major geopolitical trends

  • What are the risks and impact for (re) insurers?

  • What is the impact of these conflicts around the world?
