Mental Health at work

The Old Library, Lloyd's
Wednesday, 09 January 2019
1:10 pm – 1:55 pm (UK time)
    • Richard Sheffield ACII, Head of Technical Reinsurance, QBE
    • Natasha Barreto BA (Hons), Underwriter Combined, UK and Ireland, QBE
  • Casualty

In this IIL accident lecture Richard Sheffield and Natasha Barreto discussed QBE's journey towards establishing a Mental Health First Aider Scheme within QBE.

Mental health problems are all too common in the workplace and it is the leading cause of sickness absence. A staggering 70 million work days are lost each year due to mental health problems in the UK, costing employers approximately £2.4billion per year.

Whilst in no way experts in this field, Richard and Natasha talked about their personal motivations and explain why they see the establishment of Mental Health First Aiders as critical to every business.

The session covered their research undertaken, challenges faced, the training given and the implementation of the scheme on an ongoing basis.

By the end of this lecture members would have gained an insight into:

  • Why Mental Health First Aiders are important within the workplace
  • How a similar scheme could be set up within their own organisations

Chair:
Kate Dobinson, Senior Claims Adjuster Financial & Specialty Market Claims, QBE and Chair of Claims People & Culture Forum.
