Members’ Private Curated Tour - Museum of the Home
All members are invited to join us for a private out-of-hours morning tour of the Museum of the Home (formerly known as the Geffrye Museum).
The Museum of the Home has its roots in 300-year-old almshouses in Hoxton.
Recently reopened in 2021 following a multimillion-pound refurbishment, it now tells the story of how domestic interiors have evolved from 1600 to the present day, and the future of the home.
The Museum is kindly opening its doors to London Institute members for a private, curator-led morning tour before it opens to the public.
Highlights of the tour include:
- The Home Galleries – we will learn about the meaning of 'home' and explore treasured ornaments, furniture and photos – contemporary and historical
- Rooms Through Time – travel through time as you discover recreations of living spaces from the 1630s, through Victorian times, the 20th century, the present day, and how homes may look in the future
- EastEnders at 40 Display – this special display celebrates 40 years of London's most beloved soap, exhibiting iconic costumes and props from some of its most memorable moments
- Gardens Through Time – wander through recreated city gardens from a Tudor knot garden to a modern green roof, exploring how our gardens echo changes in society and follow the fashions and innovations of the time.
For those able to stay after the conclusion of the tour, we plan to have a coffee/tea afterwards in Molly’s Café, adjacent to the Museum (not included in the registration fee).
Spaces are strictly limited and allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Early booking is advised to avoid disappointment.
Please note: this is a social/networking event and is not CPD accredited.
