Risk trends in offshore wind featuring cable protection systems and dynamic cables

Online event
Wednesday, 02 March 2022
1:00 pm – 2:00 pm (UK time)
    • Jonathan Wheatley, Senior Risk Consultant - Cables, Primo Risk & Control
  • Marine & Energy

In this IIL marine and energy webinar, Jonathan Wheatley talks about components that cause the most concern for insurers and developers in this fast-growing renewable energy sector.

Submarine cable systems in offshore wind farms have contributed to high incidents and claims for insurers and developers. In 2021 several high-profile developers confirmed to their respective markets that there was a significant issue.

Jonathan explains in more detail what these issues are, how some are caused and how they can be avoided. He also explains that not all cable projects are the same and demonstrates how some carry more risks than others.

In this session, you can learn how the cables insurance market is tightening and gain some insight into why this has happened, coupled with some advice that could help insurers. The discussion also touches upon floating wind and the challenges faced following the ScotWind announcement in January 2022.

Learning objectives:

  • Why are cables viewed as high risk?
  • What is the 'CPS (cable protection system) issue' that is causing so much concern
  • What are the other cable risks to consider?
  • What should insurers be aware of in floating wind
