Picking up the pieces: a guide to post-incident aircraft recovery

In this IIL aviation webinar, Stephen Hill introduces the three main types of aircraft recovery. His presentation describes the main activities associated with recovery, followed by a review of various case studies involving aircraft that have required post-incident/accident recovery.

Stephen explains the main aims of recovery being to minimise secondary damage, preservation of evidence for investigation purposes, preservation of value and retention of the aircraft in a repairable or salvageable condition.

Stephen’s presentation illustrates the importance of an understanding of pre-recovery planning, site survey, identifying equipment, engineering support needs and any local infrastructure available, obtaining permissions and liaison with aviation investigation authorities and airport management.

This presentation also includes the basic steps for recovery, project management and site considerations, including the potential impact from various weather conditions and terrain, health and safety considerations, environmental etc.
