Compassion Fatigue: The silent risk to people working in insurance and financial services

In this IIL webinar, Jeff Heasman examines how compassion fatigue can manifest, then demonstrates a strategy to ensure we do not become victims of this silent yet very serious risk to our health.
In insurance and financial services, we are so often called upon to demonstrate high levels of compassion across a wide range of scenarios. If not dealt with properly, this can lead to fatigue that is bad for our mental and physical health, and which, in turn, can significantly impact our performance and, at worst, lead to burnout. Second-hand trauma can also occur as a result of dealing with clients in life-changing situations or through exposure to certain documents and evidence, such as photos and videos.
Learning objectives:
-
Identify what is meant by compassion fatigue
-
Recognise how compassion fatigue can manifest itself and the risks it poses
-
Implement a strategy to mitigate the risks of compassion fatigue impacting ourselves and our colleagues
