'Managing Upwards' is the proactive practice of building a strong, effective relationship with your manager. Join this session to learn how to understand their goals, communication preferences, and how to adapt your work style to positively influence those you report to.

In this session, we’ll hear from Lucy Scott, Partner and Head of Specialty Products at Lockton, as she reflects on how her relationships with managers and senior leaders have evolved throughout her decade-long career. Lucy will share practical tips, candid challenges, and valuable insights into how managing upwards differs from other leadership and management competencies.

You’ll gain a real-world perspective on what it’s like to report into senior stakeholders, while equipping yourself with the strategies, confidence, and communication tools needed to manage upwards and collaborate more effectively with those at the top.

Learning objectives:

  • Understand how managerial relationships evolve over the course of a career and identify the behaviours that support effective upward management

  • Develop practical strategies for communicating with and influencing senior stakeholders with confidence and clarity

  • Recognise the unique challenges of managing upwards and apply tools that differentiate upward influence from traditional management competencies

Please note that this session will not be recorded, so playback will not be available to members who do not attend the live event.
