Mind the gap…regulations, outcomes and fire protection
In this IIL property webinar, Iain Cox and Tom Roche explored the current building regulations, and proposed changes to understand their outcomes and limitations in respect to industrial and commercial buildings in the UK.
Fire safety is now firmly on the agenda and recent changes have been implemented across Great Britain impacting the provision of fire protection in selected buildings. Yet there are still misunderstandings over which buildings have guidance for active forms of fire protection across the UK.
Recent fire events have also raised questions in respect to the outcomes delivered by building regulations and their associated guidance. Surveys highlight that business owners are not clear on these items, leading to disparities when considering actions to protect their properties and revenues.
Further reviews of regulatory guidance are needed and are ongoing. There are a series of research streams that are being explored. These offer opportunities for future change to positively impact this situation but require data, evidence, and concerted action.
By the end of this webinar members would have gained an insight into:
- A clear outline of regulation in respect to the provision of sprinklers
- The outcome gap between property protection and regulation
- Potential regulatory changes and how they may impact this position
