Club FS
Martin Hendry FPFS
As a fairly new member to the new IASG, I was asked to write a bit of an introductory piece. I’ve worked in financial services since 2011, initially with Standard Life, Aberdeen and now Johnston Carmichael Wealth. In my current role I work as a Chartered Financial Planner looking after clients all over the UK.
I first got involved with extracurricular committee work in 2023 when I joined the Personal Finance Society (part of the CII) Central Scotland Committee. Fast forward 2 years and I’m now Chair of that group and we have managed to grow the committee from 3 to 6 members and we’re still on the hunt for more volunteers.
Being based in Glasgow, I also wanted to understand what the local Glasgow CII committee was doing for members and also see how we can better work together as two committees. So after a few enquiries, I then joined the IASG at the end of 2023.
Now, in the latest round of changes in the committee, I’m working as Deputy President to Nick Smith. One of the key objectives we have over the next 12 months is to better engage the financial services / PFS members as well as the core membership on the insurance side. We’ll be looking to jointly promote some events and also bringing back Club FS as part of the IASG to get some more direct financial services member engagement.
If you want to learn a bit more about the IASG and work in financial services then please reach out. We want to ensure that all members feel like they are getting maximum value from their membership and support from their local CII institute.
Best wishes
Martin
