Barking Foodbank was set up by the Hope Family Trust and The Trussell Trust in February 2012 to help tackle hunger in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham. Nicci Greenacre, IIL COO, began volunteering at her local site in Chadwell Heath in March 2020 and the IIL has been partnering with the Foodbank later that year.

The cost of living crisis is having an inevitable impact the Foodbank and statistics released by the Trussell Trust make for grim reading:

  • Foodbanks in the Trussell Trust network provided more than 2.1 million emergency food parcels between 1 April 2021 and March 2022 – a 14% increase on the same period pre-pandemic
  • 832,000 of those parcels went to children
  • Compared to this time five years ago, the need for foodbanks has increased by 81%

In June 2022 Barking Foodbank will open its third site in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham, providing support to the community six days a week.

Foodbanks are able to operate thanks to the support and generosity of the public and every donation makes a real difference to someone in crisis.

Exact timings will be confirmed nearer the date of the event. Bookings are only confirmed upon receipt of payment).

Any proceeds from this event (after event costs) will be donated to Barking Foodbank (Registered Charity Number 1157921).
