Introducing the Aberdeen Institute of Insurance and Financial Planning

The Insurance Institute of Aberdeen has officially changed its name to the Aberdeen Institute of Insurance and Financial Planning - a move designed to better reflect the breadth of their membership and the evolving landscape of the local profession.
The amendment made by the Edinburgh Institute to their name initially sparked discussions by the Aberdeen institute council, who rightly questioned why the institute’s previous name didn’t reflect every members’ area of expertise. As a significant and growing part of the Aberdeen membership, this highlighted an important oversight that had gone unaddressed for too long.
The Aberdeen council reviewed the issue and after thoughtful discussion, it was agreed that the name should evolve to reflect the full scope of their membership - both insurance and financial planning professionals. A proposal was drafted and raised at a standalone Special General Meeting (SGM) presenting the new name for member consideration, where the new title - Aberdeen Institute of Insurance and Financial Planning - was formally adopted.
This isn’t just a rebrand. It’s a recognition of who the Aberdeen institute are today. The updated name better represents the local market and ensures all professionals - whether in insurance or financial planning - feel included and represented.
