Join us for a morning of community volunteering and teambuilding at Spitalfields City Farm. Connect with nature and other IIL members in a fun, friendly and welcoming environment!

In the fast-paced hustle and bustle of City life, stopping, spending time in nature, and helping local community projects around you is becoming increasingly important.

Just a short journey from EC3 lies Spitalfields City Farm, a charity (registered number 299536) which – despite being so close to the Square Mile - is in one of the most densely-populated wards of Tower Hamlets with little access to open spaces. The farm works with a vibrant and multicultural community to provide educational opportunities to empower people to gain new skills and confidence.

This is a chance for our members to visit the farm as a small group, learn about the important work they do, and participate in voluntary community/teambuilding activities based around farmyard tasks which will be vital in giving back to the local community.

Why you should attend:

  • Get to know other members in a relaxed and friendly environment
  • Help out by giving back to a valuable charitable project, central to the communities close to the City
  • Enjoy connecting with nature in an urban oasis of calm, surrounded by plants and animals
  • Learn useful new skills – no previous experience needed

Full arrival instructions and briefing materials will be sent to you before the event.

What to expect:

Activities will depend on the season and the flexible nature of farm life. There will be a mix of gardening, DIY, farmyard tasks and of course...animal interaction!

Sample activities may include:

  • Sowing seeds and planting bulbs
  • Pruning fruit trees and harvesting crops
  • Animal grooming and feeding
  • Mucking out the paddocks and stables
  • General repairs and DIY
  • Painting fences and varnishing picnic tables

The session will end with an al fresco lunch (weather permitting!) at the Rosebery Teahut.

All activities are supervised, so no experience is needed, but please let us know of any medical conditions before the day so activities can be planned accordingly.

What to wear/bring:

Volunteers should wear sturdy shoes and dress in layers, ready for all weather conditions. Trousers and long-sleeved tops are advisable. Gloves, rain jackets and wellies can be provided as required.
