Young Members

Welcome to the Young Members' Committee (YMC) of the Insurance Institute of London (IIL).

The YMC network represents young professionals from across the London market, including insurers, reinsurers, brokers, Lloyd's, the LMA and the legal profession.

We organise a range of educational, networking and social events to promote learning and networking. We aim to assist YMC network members with CPD and career development.

Past events have covered understanding market trends and financial statements, as well as soft skills such as leadership and successful negotiations. Our annual 'So you want to be a CEO?' series sees us sit down with CEOs from across the industry for a 'fireside chat' to discuss their experiences and advice.

The YMC's flagship event is the YMC Winter Ball. Attendance has increased year on year with around 1000 young professionals attending in 2023.

A message from our Chair:

Hi, I’m Kimberley Hallam, I'm a Marine Liability Underwriter at QBE and Chair of the IIL YMC.

I started attending YMC events when I first joined the industry in 2015 as a way of connecting with other insurance professionals and widening my knowledge of the market. After a few events, I started to see familiar faces and got talking to some of the Committee at the time. I joined the Committee in 2017 as I wanted to organise events to help shape the future of the insurance industry and support learning and career development for young professionals.

I'm thrilled to now be elected as Chair! I’m excited to promote the interests of young professionals within insurance across the market and the IIL, and help shape the future of our profession. I’m passionate about sustainability, inclusion and promoting insurance as a career to attract the next generation of diverse talent.

The YMC Committee is made up of people from across the industry, all bringing different experiences and expertise to our events schedule with enthusiasm. Networking and knowledge sharing sits at the heart of our industry, so we're really excited to bring you events covering both technical and soft skills, industry knowledge, D&I, ESG and, of course, lots of opportunities for networking over the next year!
