Annual General Meeting

Our local institute council will be holding its Annual General Meeting at the time and date shown (venue to be confirmed) If any member of the Nottingham Insurance Institute wishes to join the council or would like to chat with someone about what this would involve, please contact our Secretary, Olivia Whiteley email at : olivia.whiteley@russellscanlan.com We run a series of CPD events, sports and social events in the area throughout the year, as well as celebrating all of our member’s achievements at the annual dinner, which is held in January each year. We can only do all of this thanks to the great efforts of every member of council. We are always looking for new people and new ideas. Have you considered joining your local council? We have people on our council from the General Insurance and Financial Services sides of the CII, as well as representatives from the legal profession and our strength is in the diverse and committed team who work well together. Your council invites you to attend the 2022 Annual General Meeting of The Nottingham Insurance Institute. Hear first-hand reports from council members on previous and future activities and vote on the appointment of new council members. If you feel you could make a positive contribution, it is an ideal first step to becoming involved. This year members are invited to attend either in person or virtually via Teams. The Power of an Attorney

Many more people have applied for and registered Power of Attorney’s in the last few years, a wise thing to do. But when it comes to the rules that Attorney’s need to adhere to and how far their ‘powers’ can go, how many of them truly understand what they are able to do when it comes to looking after the finances and assets of the Donor. Should they invest funds languishing in a bank account? Are they allowed to take into account the potential beneficiaries of the Donors estate? How much risk is acceptable? This session will look to answer these pertinent questions and many more.

Property insurance - understanding why there will be 15% + rate increases in 2022

This webinar will explore the root causes of rebuilding inflation and why large premium hikes are inevitable. This will be highly topical for both brokers and insurers alike. A combination of higher materials and labour costs will mean insurers are likely to need 9.6% increases just to cover rebuild cost inflation in the UK. However, given most need additional rate strength of around 6% to balance their loss-making property books, this will mean policyholders looking at rate increases of around 15% in 2022 on top of the 2021 increases!

The Highway Code Changes 2022 And Their Implications For Motor Insurance

On 29 January 2022 some significant alterations were made to the Highway Code, known and trusted for many decades as the ‘Road Users’ Bible’ Not only are these amendments of fundamental importance to any road user, they will undoubtedly have a bearing on many RTA liability decisions affecting everyone from pedestrians to HGV drivers. This webinar goes into detail on the provisions of the new Code and how they can be communicated to clients. It also looks at how they are likely to affect different classes of Motor insurance.

WEBINAR: The FCA’s new Consumer Duty of Care

The FCA introduced its proposal for a new consumer duty of care in consultation CP21/13. The FCA’s aim is to shift firms’ culture and behaviours to a focus on customer outcomes and putting the customer in a position in which the customer can act and make decisions that are in the customer’s best interests. The one-hour session will focus on the following: • an overview of the proposed new principle, rules and guidance; • how the new duty will be implemented; • how the duty interacts with existing principles, rules and guidance and the FCA’s other areas of focus (such as vulnerable customers); • how the FCA proposes to regulate and enforce the new duty; and • the steps that firms should be taking to ensure compliance with the new duty, rules and guidance.
