September Lunch

Our September Speaker is Callum Beaton who is an Insurance professional with over forty years’ experience. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute, a Chartered Insurer and is a member of the Board of the Chartered Insurance Institute. He received the Institute’s Rutter Medal in 2008 and its Morgan Owen Medal in 2011.

Callum’s experience was gained firstly broking international non-marine business at Lloyd’s and latterly underwriting in the London market. At the beginning of 1986 he returned to Guernsey to enter the captive management business. He spent almost twenty years in the sector rising to become deputy chief executive of a global captive management group. Callum has travelled extensively gaining experience in South Africa, Central and North America, Asia and Australia in addition to the UK and Europe.

In 2004 Callum stepped aside from corporate activity and has since practised as an independent consultant with a critical focus on captive and cell captive techniques. He has been retained as an expert witness in a number of cases and has advised overseas regulatory authorities on the development and implementation of captive and cell captive insurance strategies. Callum regularly undertakes peer reviews of insurance and captive insurance programmes.

During the last fifteen years he has written and lectured extensively. He holds a number of captive and cell captive company directorships in Bermuda and Guernsey and currently serves on two education committees of the CII. He served as the President of the Insurance Institute of Guernsey from 2012 to 2014.

Callum is married, with two adult sons, and in his spare time he is a keen gardener, enjoys sailing and plays atrocious golf.

The talk will take place at Moore's Hotel on Wednesday the 25^th of September at 12.30pm. (£12 for members of the Insurance Institute of Guernsey and £13 for non-members). Please do remember that the attendance fee is payable whether lunch is taken or not.

Please feel free to encourage non-member colleagues to attend should this be an area of interest but, please note, members of the Insurance Institute of Guernsey will receive priority in the event of capacity being reached.

Attendance will provide 30 minutes of Structured CPD under the Chartered Insurance Institute's CPD scheme.
