Webinar: A Macroeconomic View of the Global Markets & The UK Economy

Thursday, 06 May 2021
12:00 pm – 1:00 pm (UK time)
    • Shamik Dhar, Chief Economist, BNY Mellon

This is an opportunity to hear from BNY Mellon’s Chief Economist Shamik Dhar as he provides a macroeconomic review of global markets as the UK takes its first tentative steps to opening up the economy and building its path to recovery.

Shamik will look at the extraordinary year that was 2020, before setting the scene for what he and the team think could happen over the next 12-18 months, including the key drivers for the UK and Global markets.

Learning Objectives
At the end of this session delegates will be able to identify:

Looking back
• The ‘actual’ economic impact felt by the pandemic and the policy response from both Central Banks and Governments
• How did the markets react to the actions taken – addressing the recovery of markets and the ‘shape’ of recovery to come

Looking at the here and now
• Good News vs Bad News – 2021’s recovery depends broadly on the impact of the good news (vaccine rollout) versus the threat of new variants (Bad news)
• Are we on the brink of a strong inflationary period in the markets and structural unemployment as we exit Lockdown restrictions

Looking forward
• Shamik will provide the Team’s scenarios and explain the probabilities assigned to each of them, forecasts for GDP across the globe and the different asset classes
