Cert CII Online Insurance Examination Training

The Birmingham Insurance Institute (BII) has joined with other Local Institutes of the CII to offer our members online examination training. If you are interested, you need to act quickly. The training for Certificate in Insurance (Cert CII) starts on 8 January and will be run over 9 sessions each lasting 3 hours until March 2024. There is a Broker and Insurer pathway for candidates to choose on a first come first served basis, subject to validating BII membership status. Training will be on-line, given by professional independent trainers experienced in CII examination training

FCA GI Consumer Duty and Multi-Occupancy Update

We will also cover the new rules that will be effective from 1 January 2024 on multi-occupancy insurances following intervention by the government – these new rules will impact 5 million leaseholders. Leaseholders will be defined as customers and firms will have to act in their best interests and no commission sharing will be allowed with PMAs unless clear value to the leaseholder is evidenced. Insurers and brokers will also need to provide more information about policies to leaseholders, including detail of all remuneration.

Personal injury Discount Rate: An update in anticipation of the 2024 statutory review

• The government is obliged to undertake a formal review of the PIDR within 5 years of the last review. The next formal review of the current statutory rate, under the Civil Liability Act (CLA) 2018 must begin by Summer 2024. • The setting of the PIDR will have material implications for the value of future losses and total claims costs and so the approach to be taken and the methodology adopted will be of utmost importance to underwriters and claims managers.
