I am very proud to have been elected President of the Insurance Institute of Plymouth & Cornwall this year. I have an excellent team of volunteers around me with a number of Past Presidents still sitting on council who will hold my hand (virtually of course!) as I learn what the role entails but I am excited to learn and excited to see what we can do for our members this year.
The council consists of 16 volunteers all bringing with them a variety of experience from both the insurance and PFS world but we would always welcome more of you if you would like to get involved.
As an Institute we have just under 1,000 members roughly split 50:50 between general insurance and financial planning.
Our Aim
Our aim as a council is to work together to improve member engagement and provide educational support to all of our Insurance & PFS members from Plymouth & Cornwall.
During the last 12 months we have increased our online presence which has enabled us to deliver CPD to a wider audience and engage with more of our members as well as facilitating bigger and better discussions amongst the council without the need for people to travel to meetings. We have even managed to deliver some online social events which have been great fun!

CPD
We are planning an ongoing programme of CPD which will remain online for the time being. We will mix up sessions between technical subject matter and more general training around soft skills and wellbeing.
Education
For PFS members we have a support package for those that want to become financial planners and pass all their diploma level exams (you can’t give financial advice without having the diploma). The support is there to encourage those working in the back-office roles to move forward into the front line of giving advice. For CII members we continue to assist with exam study groups and revision sessions.
If you have any requests for a particular module revision day then please do let us know. We are here for our members and your feedback is vital.
Annual Dinner
We really missed our annual dinner last year. In recent years we have enjoyed some great bands, entertainment and dancing. We are waiting to see if we will be able to host a dinner later in 2021.
