Natalia Child and Mike Carolan will be hosting a session providing an introduction to the insurance requirements of JCT Contracts for UK building projects and how to protect the property owner with JCT compliant insurance.

Both Natalia and Mike have extensive knowledge on the topic some more information on their backgrounds is included below.

Mike Carolan Dip CII, Head of Commercial Distribution, Renovation Underwriting Limited

Mike is a highly experienced insurance professional with over 40 years’ experience. His career began as an underwriter (RSA in Newcastle and London) before he moved to insurance broking in London where he held roles at Aon, Willis and most recently PIB, working closely with clients and professionals in the UK Real Estate Development and Construction sectors. With a focus on protecting construction assets, legal liabilities, and financial risks, he had responsibility for providing bespoke project specific insurance solution options such as Project Insurance/Owner Co-ordinated Insurance Programmes (OCIP), and Latent Defects Insurance/Housing Warranties.

Natalia Child – LLB Hons, ACII, Head of Broker and Professions CPD, Renovation Underwriting Limited

Natalia has trained 100’s of insurance brokers all over the UK, sharing in-depth knowledge about to arrange insurance for property undergoing works. She is an expert in JCT contracts, JCT compliant insurance, liability requirements for works and non-negligent insurance. Natalia has over 10 years’ experience in insurance, with previous experience in HNW in both underwriting and broking.

The learning objectives for this session are as follows:

  • Summarise the role of Joint Contracts in works projects
  • Identify key insurance considerations when contract works are undertaken
  • Outline why it is important for the Employer to stay in control of insurance during a construction project
