PFS Workshop: Planning and Divorce

Stock Brook Country Club
Thursday, 27 February 2020
9:00 am – 1:00 pm (UK time)

This event is aimed at financial advisers, planners and support staff who wish to improve their knowledge of the issues surrounding financial planning and particularly pensions in respect of the divorce and separation process.

It will be delivered by Mark MacLean, a Chartered Financial Planner and the Essex Personal Finance Society Chair alongside two family solicitors - Karen Taylor of Essex Family Law and John Darnton of BDB Pitmans.

Mark will present an overview of the recent Pension Advisory Group (PAG) report which aims to steer legal professionals towards introducing financial advisers and actuaries into the negotiation stage earlier and clarified the role of a Pension on Divorce Expert (PODE) in such matters.

The PAG report provides a potential opportunity for actively encouraging referral work and understanding how financial planners can bring value to the legal professional's clients.

Karen and John will explain the legal process and considerations. This will include the use of pre-nuptials and the different legal methods for divorce including Mediatory and Collaborative approaches.
