Welcome to the Insurance Institute of Cambridge.
I’m honoured to step into the role of President in our Institute’s 105th year. My top priority is clear: growing our local membership by ramping up collaboration, networking, and engagement across the region.
I have been the Cambridge Dinner Secretary for the last 6 years and have enjoyed working on council immensely. Local Institutes are extremely important and there is always room on council for new members, who we warmly welcome—everyone is a volunteer. You can elect to be an ordinary member or take on a more active role, whatever suits your personal circumstances. Please do join our council and attend the next meeting to see what it’s all about. Over the last few years, the experience gained working with Council has upskilled me professionally and personally, and I have met some fantastic people within the industry. I believe that getting involved will help you in both your work and personal life.
I have learnt a lot from the previous Presidents – Nick Carson, Mark Hassall and Sarah Myerscough – who all worked tirelessly with the rest of our council to ensure that we remain relevant, positive and deliver professional training to all our membership. In fact, it was a chance conversation with Nick at a Cambridge Dinner which led to me joining council and becoming the Dinner Secretary. I would also like to thank Sarah Myerscough, our outgoing president, for her tireless commitment and dedication this past year, and of course I would also like to send heartfelt thanks to the council for their hard work in making it another successful year.
I am very pleased that Dave Strickland has agreed to be our Deputy President for this year. Dave has been an active member of council for the last three years and is a huge support to us all and will be an excellent Deputy.
My chosen charity this year is the National Brain Appeal, a charity close to my heart who raise invaluable funds for various neurological issues, in particular supporting projects which help people with conditions where there is progressive degeneration.
