The Insurance Charity Awareness Week 2025 - Clearer Support Criteria as Local Family Shares Their Story
The Insurance Institute of Cambridge is highlighting The Insurance Charity's valuable work ahead of Insurance Charity Awareness Week (23–27 June 2025), as the organisation unveils its refreshed brand and more explicit guidance on who it can help.
With a more accessible website and straightforward eligibility criteria, The Insurance Charity has made it easier than ever for insurance professionals to understand the support available to them during challenging times.
Who They Help
The Insurance Charity supports anyone who has worked in the insurance industry, regardless of their role or length of service. There’s no requirement to be a member of an insurance-related body or association and both working and non-working individuals can apply.
Notably, the charity also supports dependents of eligible insurance professionals, including partners and children.
A Local Story of Support
Cambridge resident Simon’s story demonstrates the profound impact The Insurance Charity can have on families in our community. When Simon’s three-year-old son Archie was diagnosed with stage 4 Neuroblastoma cancer, the family’s world was turned upside down.
"When Archie was diagnosed, I needed to reduce my working hours to support him through his treatment," Simon explains. "The financial impact was significant, but that was the least of our worries compared to what Archie was going through."
The Insurance Charity stepped in to provide vital support, helping with travel expenses for hospital visits and contributing to essential household bills during this challenging time.
"The support from The Insurance Charity meant I could focus on what mattered most – being there for my son during his treatment," says Simon. "They made a difficult situation a little more manageable, and I’ll always be grateful for that."
Beyond Financial Support
While financial assistance is a crucial aspect of The Insurance Charity’s work, the charity offers much more. It provides practical guidance, signposts to specialist organisations, and helps with money management.
Last year, The Insurance Charity awarded over £1.4 million (€1.6 million) to support industry professionals facing challenging circumstances.
"You don’t need to be in crisis to reach out," emphasises Laura Benedetto. "The Insurance Charity is there for all insurance professionals facing challenges, whether helping with care costs, counselling, specialist equipment, or ongoing support during unexpected life events."
As we approach Insurance Charity Awareness Week (23–27 June), the Insurance Institute of Cambridge encourages all members to help raise awareness of this valuable resource within our community.
