  • Property in Pensions including the insurance.
  • Pension budget headlines and take any questions.

Session 3:

  • Understand the importance of Trust in business relationships.
  • Create a definition of Trust that fits your current situation.
  • Explore how Trust can be broken, and the understand the impact of this.
  • Explore ways to maintain Trust.
  • Explore ways to rebuild Trust if or when it gets broken.

Session 4:

  • Introduction and understanding of the confidence continuum and where you and others are positioned on it.
  • Impostor Syndrome and how it can be used to your advantage.
  • Learn techniques to build confidence in yourself and those around you.
  • Recognise the factors that undermine confidence

Speaker Bio - David Scales

David Scales is a Senior Claims Consultant and qualified loss adjuster working for Hamilton Bond Ltd and Marsh Claims Solutions. After working for various loss adjusting firms for almost 20 years he now prepares, presents and negotiates commercial and corporate property claims on behalf of Policyholder’s, supporting them throughout the claims process and looking to achieve best possible settlement.

The presentation will involve real life claims scenarios and aim to demonstrate the substantial benefits professional claim representation can provide for Policyholders, brokers, insurers and even loss adjusters in the claims process (and a bit at the end about underinsurance for good measure!)

Speaker Bio - Kerry Houghton

Kerry has been in pensions for over 35 years, specialising in self administered solutions. She has worked with both large nationals and smaller companies. A bit of a self confessed pensions geek. She is both Chartered and holds the ACII.

Kerry is also the Education Outreach Ambassador for the PFS in Lancashire, Merseyside and Cumbria. This involves her in trying to encourage others, as does she, provide financial education to schools and other groups. Kerry also sits on council in Preston and Blackpool as a PFS representative.

Speaker Bio - Andy Wood

A dedicated and insightful L&D professional who is motivated by the opportunity to help others improve.


I’m hands on and pragmatic and have developed a wide range of Business and People development programmes and personally facilitated programmes in the UK, Mainland Europe, North America, South America and Asia. I use a pragmatic approach and brain friendly techniques to make the learning easier to embed in your daily work.


Prior to starting my own business about a year ago, I was employed in Senior Learning and Development roles within three global Supply Chain businesses for over 22 years. These roles were all focussed on a mix of Technical and Behavioural development, delivering both ‘What to do’ and ‘How to do it’. Prior to this I was employed in Operational Management roles in both Research & Development and FMCG Production environments in a Global business.

A chemist by first qualification, my MBA, specialising in areas of Creativity and Performance Management, was awarded in 1999 and I have continued my professional development throughout my career.

With a passion for cars and all things mechanical, I’m also a qualified Brewer and Wine Taster.

Speaker Bio - Steve Smith

Business Doctor for Lancashire, Steve Smith joined the Business Doctors network with 30 years’ experience in Senior Management and Director roles for blue chip companies such as Procter and Gamble, Kellogg’s and AG Barr.

Born and raised in St Helens, Steve graduated from the University of Sheffield with a degree in Business Studies, before starting his career at P&G. Working on leading brands in various sales, marketing and commercial roles, Steve built his experience in business planning and strategy, team leadership, P & L management, consumer brand development and trade marketing.

Steve gained a great satisfaction not only in achieving sales, revenue and profit growth, but also through training, coaching and motivating others. Combined with the desire to take on a new challenge, Steve became a Business Doctor, and enjoys sharing his knowledge and experience to make a big difference to local SME’s, helping them overcome the challenges and issues they face. In 2021 he released his first business book ‘Baked Alaska’ – a down to earth summary of his career to date and retains a passion to provide quality business advice in ‘bog standard English’.

In his spare time, Steve enjoys reading history books, particularly about WW1 and WW2. He’s also a keen runner and likes watching football, rugby and cricket.
