Differentiating Cyber Risk

Wednesday, 28 October 2020
11:00 am – 12:00 pm (UK time)
    • Claire Davey, Cyber Security & Risk Management Expert

Overview

During this training session participants will obtain a nuanced understanding of cyber risks and will ultimately be able to articulate, and differentiate between, the exposures and considerations of a variety of cyber risks.

This webinar will ask ‘who is a cyber risk?’, exploring the plentiful number of individuals and organisations who can contribute to cyber risk. In turn, their motivations will be identified and the attack vectors explored.

We will then relate these learnings to the lived experiences of Aberdeen CII’s membership. How do these risks show up within the insurance and financial planning sectors?

With the (un)authorised transfer of funds being of particular concern to the financial and professional services industry, we’ll discuss how the insurance market differentiates between ‘crime’ and ‘cyber’ risk.

Lastly, we’ll touch upon how COVID-19, and the trend towards long-term working from home, has led to a paradigm shift in cyber risk and how we can be more mindful of this in our daily practices.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this session participants will be:

  • More confident in identifying a number of cyber risks, from particular actors to specific mediums and attack vectors
  • Able to articulate the difference between financial crime risk and cyber risk
  • Cognisant of the cyber risks pertinent to the insurance and financial planning industry
  • Aware of how the ‘working from home’ environment has created new and differentiated cyber risk
