Dementia: how can we insure our futures?

In this IIL London Market lecture Sian Fisher & Professor Diane Hanger talked about one of the largest challenges we face in society - the increasing number of people suffering from Dementia. As a nation, we are unprepared to deal with this issue.

The number of people suffering from dementia is rising rapidly with a significant proportion of these being women who are often less prepared to deal with the repercussions. As a nation, we are unprepared to deal with dementia so we need to unite to be better equipped to face these challenges head on.

This forms part of the CII's 'Insuring Futures' programme. We focus on challenges in society where the insurance profession can make a difference.

The Insurance Against Dementia campaign is a first in its kind to bring the sector together to actively work to tackle a wider social problem as one. We encourage everyone to support this vital initiative.

By the end of this lecture members would have gained an insight into:

• How an aging population is leading to a greater number of people suffering from dementia
• Women, making up a larger proportion of the elderly, are particularly at risk with 61% of people with dementia being women
• How you can make a difference by supporting Insurance United Against Dementia

Speakers Bios:
Sian Fisher is CEO of the Chartered Insurance Institute since February 2016, which followed a distinguished career including senior roles at a Lloyd's Syndicate, UK and European insurance companies, a market leading MGA, a major international broker and a US corporate.

Professor Hanger joined King's in 1990. She is the head of the Neurodegeneration Unit of the Department of Basic and Clinical Neuroscience. Diane Hanger leads a lab working on molecular and cellular mechanisms and models of neurodegenerative disease, including Alzheimer's disease, other rarer forms of dementia, and Parkinson's disease.

Registration closes at 12pm two working days before the event date
For events held in The Old Library, Lloyd's pass holders may also attend and do not need to register
Original Photo ID (Driving Licence, Passport, Work ID with company logo and full name) is required to gain entry to all venues
